Georgia Tech men’s basketball: 3,898 yards and a team-best 19-0 run
Georgia Tech is going into its second straight bowl game, as the Hokies put together a 19-point, fourth-quarter run to take a 64-62 lead with 1:43 left in the game.
It was the fourth straight game in which the Hokie offense had scored more than 20 points.
Tech has won five straight, and now has a seven-game winning streak dating back to Feb. 13.
Georgia Tech quarterback Cody Kessler scored his first career touchdown in the fourth quarter with a 14-yard run.
The Hokies scored 10 straight points to go up 51-38 with 3:34 remaining in the third quarter, but quarterback Josh Rosen scored two points on a run and a touchdown pass.
It took the Hokias 17:31 to get back into the game, but the defense held the Bulldogs to a mere 14 points.
The Hokies have won six of seven, including a 20-6 win over Michigan State last week, and have won three straight against the Spartans.
They are 6-0 this season in the Peach Bowl, and are 3-1 in the bowl games they have played against Georgia Tech.
Kessler is now on pace for at least 20 touchdowns for the first time in his career, and he had five in the first half.
He has rushed for at-least 100 yards in six of his last eight games.
This is Georgia Tech’s second win in the three bowl games, but this is the first win in a bowl game against a ranked opponent.
The Yellow Jackets beat Clemson, 48-35, in the second round of the ACC Tournament last season.
The Eagles lost at home to Duke in the ACC Championship game.
Auburn has dropped three straight, but has now won five of six against opponents ranked in the top 15.
The Tigers have dropped their last two games against ranked opponents.
Auburn will play Clemson, Alabama, Florida State and Louisville this week.
UAB has won its last three games, including its last two in the Big 12 Conference, and has a six-game win streak against ranked teams.
The Blazers are 2-1 against ranked foes.
UTEP is 4-0 against ranked Opponents this season, including winning four straight in the Holiday Bowl against TCU.
UTEP is 1-2 against ranked competition since the start of the 2014 season.
Texas Tech is 6-1 this season against ranked opposition, including an 8-1 mark against ranked opponent in the SEC Championship game this season.
Tech defeated Alabama 24-14 in the Sugar Bowl.
Duke is 3-0 all-time against ranked rivalries, but is 0-4 against ranked team in the last four years.
The Blue Devils lost to South Carolina, 41-17, in last year’s Orange Bowl.
Duke also lost to Arkansas State, 30-23, in that same game.
